Dates: April 23-24 2016 Teacher: Blake Martin Location: Still Light Centre Prerequisites: none This hands-on, interactive, whirlwind tour through the human body will provide a broad overview of the tissues, structures, and systems that make movement possible, and help us to understand the body’s responses when faced with injury. Students will learn about bones, joints, and muscles, how to tell the difference between a sprain and a strain, and use all of these ideas through demonstrations, massage explorations, and case studies. Course material will cover:
- how tissue types relate to massage techniques
- how to use and understand basic anatomical terms
- how the skeleton, articulation, and muscles cause movement
- what is inflammation response and how to manage it; and
- how to apply anatomical knowledge to a massage context
